A pair of Prince George’s County products have been selected to the Pro Bowl.
Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake (DeMatha) and San Franciso 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman (Suitland) earned Pro Bowl honors last Wednesday when the former Penn State defensive standouts were selected to represent their respective conference in the annual NFL showcase.
Wake, who has registered a career-high 15 sacks heading into the final regular season game, earned his second Pro Bowl selection in three years while Bowman garnered his first Pro Bowl nod.
“It’s really an honor. I couldn’t do it obviously without the guys around me,” said Wake, selected as a Pro Bowl starter for the AFC squad. “I think, when these individual honors come out, it shows what kind of guys you have around you.”
In Miami’s 24-21 overtime win against the Arizona Cardinals, Wake erupted for 4.5 sacks.
“Everybody knows that, as a pass rusher,” said Wake, “your best friends are the guys behind you.”
Meanwhile, Bowman has been a leader on one of the league’s top defensive units and was recognized for his hard work.
“It just means a lot,” said Bowman, selected as an NFC reserve. “When I didn’t go last season, for me personally, it was to work harder and not let it affect me.”
The Washington Redskins, who play their home games at Landover’s FedEx Field, had three players selected to the NFC Pro Bowl squad including rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III along with offensive tackle Trent Williams and special teams standout Lorenzo Alexander.
