Suitland and Flowers have dominated Prince George’s 4A football this season.
Both teams are tied for first place, but after the first five weeks of play, there have been some shocking scenarios that have made the standings a free-for-all.
The front runner of Prince George’s 4A is the Suitland Rams. Despite losing to Wise en route to the Pumas’ first championship crown last season, the Rams have rattled off five wins to start off the season strong. Returning starting quarterback Wesley Wolfork threw 166 yards and two touchdown passes against Laurel in a convincing 54-6 victory.
Flowers has executed smart and efficient football on a regular basis. But, Flowers hasn’t faced teams that will have a good shot at making the postseason. Flowers’ last victory against Oxon Hill was a 48-0 shutout. On tap for the Jaguars in the final three matches of the season are its toughest competition: two road games against Wise and Suitland and facing DuVal at home.
The Bowie Bulldogs are a team on the rise. Coming off a critical win against Eleanor Roosevelt on Saturday, the Bulldogs are ready to turn some heads and shake things up in the 4A standings. Bowie is led by Uunior quarterback Jordan Green. He threw 170 yards and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs have defeated the defending Maryland Class 4A state champions after losing their first three games to open up the season. It was the first time the Bulldogs beat Wise since 2006.
However, Bowie will face a tough road block in its next match against DuVal. DuVal is probably one of the most dangerous sleeper teams in the county. With a 4-1 record, the Tigers look to steal a key road victory against the Bulldogs on Saturday.
DuVal’s dual-threat quarterback Antoine Brooks has been torching defenses with his arm and his legs. So far, he has thrown more than 400 yards and four touchdowns, and has rushed for 384 yards with five touchdowns on the ground.
