University of Maryland left-handed pitcher Mike Brewer was taken in the 15th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago White Sox earlier this week. Maryland also saw three more stars get picked up in the draft as well. Charlie White was selected in the 21st round by the Chicago Cubs, and Blake Schmidt was chosen by the Minnesota Twins. Charlie White will join teammate Jake Stinnett who was chosen 45th overall by the Chicago Cubs.

The Wounded Warriors softball team defeated the NFL Stars 25-9 on June 7 at Prince George's Stadium. Washington Redskins stars: Niles Paul, Darrel Young, and EJ Biggers got a chance meet fans and sign autographs before the game. Last year the MCOP Charity Softball Classic raised over $30,000 for improving the quality of life for limb loss veterans while raising money for amputee Veteran's charities. They are hoping to exceed $50,000 this year for Veterans Amputee Charities.

The Bowie Baysox defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 8-7 on June 7. Baysox outfielder John Ruettiger had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run during a close road victory. Baysox pitcher Anthony Vasquez earned his first win of the season with a three-inning outing, and Baysox closer Steve Hensley captured his second save of the year.
