The 23-year-old University of Maryland student who shot his roommates — killing one — before taking his own life Tuesday in College Park previously worked for campus police.
Dayvon Green, according to University of Maryland Police officials, worked as a police auxiliary officer for about two weeks in August and September. He did not carry a badge or a gun, but he had a police radio that would allow him to summon a sworn officer if he spotted trouble.
Campus police officials said Green was fired after he twice failed to show up for work.
Green was a NASA student ambassador and an engineering graduate student at the university. He previously attended Morgan State University.

Title: It must end
My heart aches for Dayvon and his troubled mind that caused him to harm and kill his innocent roommates. With the gun debate, there is no need for a young man like him to legally be able to purchase guns. The laws have to change immediately. These senseless deaths must end. Also make mental health services more readily available.
