Superintendent Search Community Forums
Hurricane Sandy caused for these community forums to be rescheduled. There will be forums with the community to discuss the qualities wanted in a new superintendent on Nov. 7 at Northwestern High School, on Nov. 8 at Friendly High School and Capitol Heights Elementary School, and Nov. 14 at Whitehall Elementary School. All of these forums begin at 6:30 p.m.
Budget Community Forums
Hurricane Sandy caused for the budge community forums to be rescheduled. There will be forums with the community to discuss the 2014 Operating Budget on Nov. 5 at Barack Obama Elementary School, on Nov. 7 at Laurel High School, on Nov. 14 at Gwynn Park Middle School, and on Nov. 15 at Walker Mill Middle School. All of the forums run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
30 PGCPS schools will receive lacrosse equipment
The Prince George’s Women’s Lacrosse Association received a physical education workshop grant for PGCPS teachers from U.S. Lacrosse.
Physical education teachers from 30 schools will be learning lacrosse and teaching it as part of the physical education program. The workshop will teach teachers how to play lacrosse, and about rules and safety, as well as provide lacrosse supplies and curriculum.
PGCPS Title 1 schools recognized for performance
Five PGCPS schools have been named 2012-2013 Reward Schools by the Maryland State Department of Education for being among the highest 30 performing Title 1 schools in the state. These schools are Adelphi, Concord, Lewisdale, Robert Frost and Seat Pleasant.
Title 1 is a federal program that gives financial assistance to schools with high percentages of low-income children. To qualify for Title 1 funds, at least 40 percent of students must be enrolled in the FARMS program.
Honor University of Maryland veterans
On Friday, Nov. 9 at 12:30 p.m. there will be a Veteran’s Day Celebration at the University of Maryland in the Memorial Chapel.
Maryland Community Colleges’ Big Give
On Nov. 14, people can support Prince George’s Community College by participating in Maryland Community Colleges’ Big Give, a 24-hour online fundraising event. This is the first joint effort of its kind by a statewide community college association. Officials hope to raise $160,000 and to gain $1,600 new donors across Maryland. Maryland students to participate in first Maryland Digital Forensics Investigation Challenge
Teams of up to four students from Maryland high schools, community colleges and universities will be given 20 minutes to complete an investigation based on a mock cyber crime on Nov. 29 in Queen Anne Fine Arts and Largo Student Center at Prince George’s Community College. The winners of the challenge from each category will get to tour the Pentagon on Nov. 30 and meet senior Department of Defense cyber leadership.
