Baysox conquer Rock Cats, 8-1

The Bowie Baysox defeated the New Britain Rock Cats 8-1 on Aug. 22. Bowie Baysox starting pitcher Daniel McCutchen earned his first win of the season after pitching seven innings, striking out four batters. Outfielder Lew Ford played as a designated hitter in his rehabilitation assignment for the Baysox. He had three runs, two hits, and an RBI.

Mystics top Dream, 74-64

The Washington Mystics took down the Atlanta Dream 74-64 on Friday. Monique Currie led all scorers with 15 points. She also had seven rebounds and three steals in a game that had 18 lead changes. Ivory Latta scored 14 points, and she dished out four assists in the key victory.

Redskins extend preseason winning streak

The Washingon Redskins have won three-straight preseason games, defeating the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. Without the help of Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins, Washington leaned on Pat White at quarterback. White threw 96 yards and rushed 26 yards for a touchdown.

Terps tryouts

The University of Maryland will hold walk-on tryouts for its football team at 6 a.m. Sept. 9. There will be a meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gossett Football Team House to go over information regarding the tryout.
