Two people were shot Sunday in the parking lot of a Shell gas station in the 5300 block of Queens Chapel Road in Hyattsville.
The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. when two cars pulled into the gas station with several individuals inside each vehicle, said Sgt. Chris Purvis of Hyattsville Police Department.
As several people were getting out of one of the vehicles to go into the gas station’s store, gunfire erupted from the second vehicle, Purvis said.
“We believe a total of 19 shots were fired from the second vehicle and one person was struck in the stomach and buttocks,” Purvis said. The victim was transported to a local hospital.
The second victim, a woman, arrived at a nearby hospital. She had been hit in the hand and been grazed on the lip. Police believe the woman’s wounds were a result of stray bullets.
“The suspects fled the scene in a black four-door compact car and are still at large,” Purvis said.
