Baysox pitcher undefeated
Bowie Baysox pitcher Mike Wright earned his fourth win this season against the Erie SeaWolves on Friday night in the second game of the series. Wright pitched for six innings and struck out six batters to defeat Erie 5-1. Left fielder Buck Britton led the Sox offensively with three hits, one RBI and a run.
Riverdale Baptist beats Wilson, 6-3
Riverdale Baptist’s baseball team defeated Wilson 6-3 last Thursday. Outfielder Matt McPherson was named player of the game for going two for four at the plate, working the count for a walk, scoring a run and stealing a base. Senior pitcher Ryan Selmer earned his sixth win this season and struck out three batters to secure the victory.
Bowie soccer player named Triad all-conference
The American Hebrew Academy recently announced that Bowie native Rachel Sharkey has been named to the Triad Athletic Conference All-Conference Team for girls’ soccer. The sophomore was selected for this prestigious honor for the third time this year. Sharkey was named Conference Player of the Year and was also selected to the Olympic Development team in North Carolina.
Champion bowler, basketball player named Bowie State athletes of the year
The Bowie State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics had its 13th annual awards banquet in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Building Auditorium last week. The banquet highlighted 78 student-athletes who earned a 3.0 or better grade point average. They also announced the male and female athletes of the year: championship bowler Shayla Lightfoot and CIAA Basketball Tournament MVP Byron Westmorland.
