Pallotti hires new boys’ basketball coach
Pallotti High School hired coach Dennis Murphy as the new boys’ basketball coach. Murphy replaced former head coach Shae Johnson, who resigned after seven seasons. Murphy was the assistant coach at St. John’s for 13 years. Murphy was unanimously selected by a four-person committee to coach at the Laurel school.
Quarterback returns to gridiron this fall
Fairmont Heights quarterback Christian Bangura is looking forward to having a productive season after a life-threatening health issue prevented him from playing in the 2012 season. The Largo High School transfer had a blood clot in his neck and shoulder last fall. Bangura had surgery to fix the health issue and is eager to take his team to the playoffs.
Baysox take down Senators, 6-2
The Bowie Baysox defeated the Harrisburg Senators 6-2 Thursday night in Harrisburg. Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen earned his first win for the Baysox in his rehabilitation assignment. Chen struck out three batters in seven innings. Brandon Waring had two hits and scored a run.
DuVal grad selected to pre-season All-America team
Towson offensive tackle Eric Pike was named to the FCS Pre-Season All-America team. The DuVal High School graduate has been a four-year starter at Towson. Pike said he is honored to be named a Second-Team All-American his senior year.
