Eleanor Roosevelt claims fourth consecutive boys’ 4A South Regional
Eleanor Roosevelt’s boys’ basketball team won its fourth consecutive 4A South regional title by defeating Wise 56-55 on Friday. Malachi Alexander led the Raiders in scoring with 18 points, and Lerenzo Foote dropped eight points. Tiwian Kendley scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to help put his team on top, and the Raiders will now advance to the state semifinal on Thursday against North Point.
Potomac wins boys’ 3A South Regional
Potomac’s boys’ basketball squad will advance to the Class 3A state semifinals after an impressive 76-70 win against Thomas Stone on Friday to claim the 3A South Regional Championship. Dion Wiley lit up the scoreboard with 24 points, and Randall Broddie scored in double-figures with 22 points. Potomac will face Reservoir on Thursday.
Eleanor Roosevelt edged out of girls’ 4A playoffs
Eleanor Roosevelt’s girls’ basketball team fell 57-55 to North Point in the Class 4A semifinal match last Thursday. The game needed an overtime period to find a victor, but the Raiders will not advance any further this year. However, freshman forward Kaila Charles had a big night with 21 points, and Daria Simmons dropped 15 points.
Friendly falls in girls’ 3A semifinal
River Hill’s girls’ basketball team knocked Friendly out of the tournament with a 52-43 victory over the Patriots in the Class 3A semifinal match last Thursday. The Patriots had a good run this season, winning 20 games; but their team fell short of another victory. Chayla Lewis led all scorers with 13 points in the final game for her high school career.
