Raiders topple Bulldogs, 8-1

Eleanor Roosevelt’s baseball team defeated Bowie 8-1 last Wednesday. Eleanor Roosevelt senior Curtis Perrell pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters. Robert Lozado scored a run and had two hits. Trevor Allen also scored two runs in the lopsided victory. The Raiders shut out Bowie 7-0 earlier this season, and they enjoyed success in the sequel match. They are the team to beat in the 4A division.

Wise slams Parkdale, 16-6

Wise’s baseball team crushed Parkdale 16-6 on Saturday. Sterling Swann was named the player of the game for going four for four at the plate. He belted two home runs to secure another win for the Pumas. Senior pitcher Kamar Perkins earned his second straight win of the season with three strikeouts. He also scored a run.

DuVal defeats High Point, 13-3

DuVal’s softball team took down High Point 13-3 last Wednesday. Senior pitcher Paulita Holmes pitched for six innings against the Eagles, struck out three batters, and only allowed four hits during the contest. Deidra Burton had four hits and scored two runs, while fellow teammate Tarrah Montgomery led her team with three runs.

Bowie State outfielder honored

Bowie State softball outfielder Cassandra Clayborne was recently selected to 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Division II team. The sophomore scored 35 runs, amassed 46 hits, drove in 10 RBIs, and hit two home runs last season. Clayborne was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America as one of the nation’s top student athletes.
