RG3 improves despite loss to Detroit
The Washington Redskins fell 27-20 to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Despite losing, quarterback Robert Griffin III showed signs of improvement since injuring himself in the playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks. Griffin threw 326 yards and also rushed 37 yards. The Redskins will have another tough match against the Oakland Raiders this Sunday.
DuVal shuts out Parkdale
DuVal’s football team shut out Parkdale 31-0 on Saturday. Sophomore quarterback Antoine Brooks rushed 121 yards for three touchdowns. He also threw 122 yards and a touchdown pass to help keep the Tigers’ three-game winning streak alive. Running backs Terrance Davenport and Elems Ukwu combined for 86 yards on the ground to help lead their team to victory.
Mystics beat Dream in playoff match
The Washingon Mystics defeated the Atlanta Dream 76-56 on Sept. 19. Ivory Latta led all scorers with 14 points, tallied seven assists and had seven rebounds. University of Maryland alumna Crystal Langhorne scored 12 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and had three assists in a key playoff win.
Forestville routs Cardozo
Forestville’s football team earned its third-straight win of the season against Cardozo 48-0 on Friday. Smith Merzeir rushed 64 yards for three touchdowns. Kevin Thomas and Marcel Joly had three carries a piece and combined for 93 rushing yards to help lead their team to a 3-0 start to the season.
