During his campaign Ficker has criticized the County status quo, blaming them for overtaxing and spending, and promised if elected County Executive, to be a voice for the average resident in Montgomery County.

Facing Council member Craig Rice in November will be Republican challenger Ed Amatetti. A former school teacher, Amatetti bested two other Republican candidates, Kyle Sefcik and Tom Ferleman in District 2, winning 52.4 percent of the vote with a total of 1,639 votes

District 2, which includes parts of Germantown, Clarksburg and Damascus had been the most Republican-friendly district as of late on the all-Democratic County Council. Amatetti has promised to reform Montgomery County Public Schools by increasing standards and to stop any property tax increase if elected.

On the at-large side, since only four Republicans were on the ballot, all four advance to November’s general election for County Council at-large. Republicans Robert Dyer, Chris P. Fiotes, Jr., Penny Musser, Shelly Skolnick, will face Democrats Gabe Albornoz, Evan Glass, Will Jawando and incumbent Hans Riemer and Green Party candidate Tim Willard.

In District 1, Richard Banach won an uncontested primary and will face Democrat Andrew Friedson in November.

In Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District Republican Primary, Amie Hoeber came out on top with 68.1 percent, 18,751 votes total.

“As we head toward success in November, I will continue to demonstrate that I offer the best choice to solve the critical problems faced by our District, Maryland and the nation,” Hoeber said.

She thanked her family, friends and staff as well as her opponents in the Republican race.

Republican candidate Tony Campbell won the U.S. Senate race with 29.2 percent (49,512 votes), beating Chris Chaffee at 24.2 percent (40,935 votes).
