SEABROOK – An Oxon Hill man is dead after a fatal stabbing incident following an alleged fight in the line of a local Popeyes restaurant on Nov. 4 in Oxon Hill.

According to Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) spokeswoman Jennifer Donelan, the 28-year-old male victim, Kevin Tyrell Davis, was standing in line at a Popeyes location on Livingston Road. The victim and another man began to argue which spilled outside, where the stabbing took place.

Detectives at the scene have “preliminary” determined that the fight was about a Popeyes chicken sandwich, which was re-released over the weekend.

Donelan said that the location had two separate lines, one for customers purchasing the sandwich and one for other transactions.

“This individual was in-line specifically for the sale of this sandwich when he got into an altercation which ended with the victim being stabbed outside the business,” Donelan said. “… So our initial details are that somebody cut in front of the other. For you to get that angry over anything, for that type of anger to develop into this kind of violence is very sad and (this) is a very tragic day.”

Police arrived at the scene at 7 p.m. when they found Davis on the ground with the stab wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead approximately 51 minutes after the stabbing, Donelan said.

Donelan said that the restaurant did not say if they will stop selling the sandwich at the Oxon Hill location.

The sandwich returned to restaurants all over the country on Nov. 3 after a two-month hiatus after its release on Aug. 12. The sandwich became an instant hit, causing Popeyes to run out of supply and announce on Aug. 27 that they were sold out.

“We are very sad to hear about the tragedy in Maryland,” Popeyes spokesperson Kristin Martinez said in a statement. “We do not yet know whether this was the result of a dispute over one of our products or something unrelated, but there is no reason for someone to lose their life on a Monday night in a parking lot. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends, and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.”

Police officials are asking for people in the restaurant at the time of the incident to come forward and provide details to find the person who committed the stabbing. He wore a yellow shirt with a black jacket and cap. The suspect was also accompanied with a female companion.

“We are looking for a male, and that male knows who he is,” Donelan said. “He knows what he did here tonight, and he needs to do the right thing, and he needs to step up and turn himself in.”

Police are asking if the public has information relevant to this investigation, they are asked to please call detectives 301-772-4925.  Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477), or go online at, or use the “P3 Tips” mobile app.
