LANHAM – A 56-year-old Silver Spring man died Tuesday night when police said he lost control of his motorcycle on Greenbelt Road.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. said Cpl. Nicole Hubbard, spokesperson for Prince George’s County Police Department.

Units from Prince George’s County Fire Department responded to the incident and located Robert Edward Bailey III of Cambridge Park Court in Silver Spring.

Paramedics rushed Bailey to a local trauma center where he was later pronounced dead, Hubbard said.

According to police, the preliminary investigation suggests Bailey was traveling westbound on Greenbelt Road when, for reasons which remain unclear, he failed to make a slight curve to the right and hit a curb. He then lost control and struck a guardrail.

Hubbard said Greenbelt Road was closed down for several hours while police investigated.
